Straw Poll for Obamas running mate?

My Choices are: John Edwards
Va. Senator Jim Webb
Former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford Jr.
Check out these websites for the lesser known Jim Webb and Harold Ford Jr.

Anyone have other candidate ideas for Barack or selections for John McCain? Does the vice presidential candidate really matter or not in your vote?

Lastly, for those who haven't seen Lions To Lambs and Charlie Wilson's War, I would recommend both for excellent political themes that will inform and provoke your thoughts.

As with all candidates for any office nowadays, the best way to indicate you're running is to deny your interest in 153 different ways.

I like Jim Webb. He's from VA, class of '06, and overtook George Allen. He, of course, has reaffirmed his commitment to working on behalf of vets in the senate. Of course, the one thing he's not willing to do is cut off funding for the war. I guess that's still too fringy.

I am less a fan of Harold Ford, not only as VP candidate but also as an officeholder in general. I don't think there's any way Obama chooses a black man as his running mate.

My number one choice right now is Wesley Clark, former NATO commander...for all the obvious reasons. He has executive experience in the military (two birds with one stone). He's intelligent, but there's no danger of overshadowing Obama.

People keep talking about Hillary as a valid choice. My only fear is that Republicans just use her speeches from the primaries in which she questioned whether Obama had crossed the commander-in-chief threshold...and then went on to affirm that John McCain had crossed that threshold. Of course, they're already doing that, and they'll do it no matter whether she's the VP candidate or not. But I have to believe it's infinitely more damaging if her name's on the ticket.

Ultimately, I have no idea. Hopefully, we'll find out soon.

Also, Harold Ford wasn't able to win the senate seat in TN in '06. Had he been victorious, he might be more of an asset.
