Say It Ain't So

Obama's wife said yesterday in Milwaukee "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."
For the first time in her life!!?? What a great first lady she'll be. What a patriot!

As an African-American and a woman, I think it might be safe to say she's seen sides of America you and I haven't, Dad. Also, I don't think being a patriot means being blindly proud of your country. Wouldn't a better definition focus on wanting the best for your country and a willingness to challenge it to achieve those ends? (Anyway, I agree with Bob Dylan: "They say that patriotism is the last refuge to which a scoundrel clings.")

Mr. T, if you would like to scrutinize single sentences of potential first ladies, I would be happy to contribute sentences from sitting presidents that are worth scrutiny.
